Providence Soup Kitchen Micropantry
When thinking about food insecurities, there are a variety of different approaches to take. At first, I wasn't exactly sure what I should do but when looking at different options I saw what a benefit micropantries can provide starting at the local level.

The Providence Soup Kitchen is run through St. Stainslaus Kostka Parish in the West Town Neighborhood of Chicago. Each week there is primarily a meal provided and anyone is welcome to come. However, I was thinking what about after the food the soup kitchen provides what happens then...??
What Can We All Do
The micropantry is meant to be a supplement to what is already offered through the Providence Soup Kitchen. Since the soup kitchen provides a meal, the micropantry can be used to grab smaller food items either for later in the day or to use until the person is able to come to the Providence Soup Kitchen again.
When doing some research, I noticed that soup kitchens across the globe are very beneficial but sometimes can have hours that do not always work with all schedules or people go hungry between their visits to the soup kitchen. Therefore, I thought a micropantry would be instrumental as it is a place people can go while they are at the Proidence Soup Kitchen so there is no extra travel involved and it can provide food for those in-between times of when the Soup Kitchen may not be open, people are unable to go a certain day, etc.
As time goes on, I hope this micropantry continues to be filled and used numerous times a day and week while we all strive for food equity in our local communities. While I have seen some micropantries in Chicago, I hope they continue to grow and be present throughout many more parts of the city. However, for now, I hope St. Stan’s Micropantry continues to serve as many people as it can.
